Regering in die sop oor vuurwapenwet
Johannesburg - Die Black Gun Owners Association het Vrydag gesê dat hulle die Suid-Afrikaanse regering vir R3.2 miljard sal dagvaar nadat duisende mense hul werk verloor het sedert die nuwe vuurwapenwet op 1 Julie 2004 in werking getree het. "'n Totaal van 800 winkels wat vuurwapens verkoop moes hulle deure sluit. Sowat 10 000 mense het hulle werk verloor en meer as 40 000 swart mense is tussen 2004 en 2010 vuurwapenlisensies geweier," het die vereniging se voorsitter, Abios Khoele, tydens 'n perskonferensie in Johannesburg gesê.
"Die regering is daarop uit om swart mense te ontwapen omdat hulle soveel beloftes oor dienslewering gemaak het, wat nooit gematerialiseer het nie. Hulle is bang dat swart mense teen die regering sal draai as hulle gewapen is."
Die organisasie verteenwoordig byna 700 000 vuurwapeneienaars, beide swart en wit, in die industrie.
Volgens Khoele sal die eis aan die einde van Julie ingedien word.
Khoele het bygevoeg dat die sentrale vuurwapenregistrateur - wat die vuurwapenlisensies uitreik - nie genoegsame rede verskaf waarom hulle verskeie aansoek van die hand gewys het nie.
"In die briewe wat hulle uitgestuur het word slegs gesê dat die aansoekers alternatiewe metodes moet soek om hulself te beskerm. Ons wil weet wat hierdie alternatiewe metodes is want die kriminele is gewapen en hulle val mense op 'n daaglikse basis aan."

AMNESTIE (11 Januarie tot 11 April 2010)
This amnesty will be the last chance to surrender illegal firearms , and apply to obtain licences for them within 14 days after you hand in the said illegal firearm/s. The Government gazette states that the applicant for amnesty must apply for a firearm license within 14 days after surrendering the firearm to SAPS. This application must be of such a nature that it complies with the requirements of the Firearms Control Act , Act 60/2000. This application must consist of a proper motivation and supporting documents or else your application will not be succesfull. You must have a Competency Certificate or need to apply for such a certificate at the same time as your new application. Your last chance to submit an application/s to keep your current firearm/s if you did not renew it/their licences!! Permission was granted in a letter dated 6 January 2010 issued by Police Head Office, only for the period 11 January 2010 to 11 April 2010. It is wonderful because you can keep your firearm/s whilst these applications are in progress. You will have to undergo a full training course, that is the prescribed test on knowledge of the Act, as well as the practical test regarding the safe and efficient handling of a firearm/s.
